In today's blog, I would like to share my thoughts about Covid-19 (coronavirus) and how it has affected me in both positive, and negative ways. Coronavirus was discovered nearing the end of 2019, and was declared as a global pandemic around March of 2020. Due to the global pandemic, a new phase called "lockdown" began, and all sorts places where people gathered came to a halt. Unfortunately, schools also came into the category of places where people gathered. If we did go out, we would have to wear a mask, which covered our mouth and nose, so the virus wouldn't spread.
I was in the 8th grade when the concept of lockdown began unfolding around the world. Coronavirus cases were escalating and my school announced that we would not be able to physically attend school for the next three weeks, (of course it did not go as planned). Starting here, came a new phase of learning, "distance learning." The first few days of this "three week bonus break" seemed pretty good for me. Sleeping in everyday for the next month, I was ready. After just the first week I started to realize how easily I got bored and felt the urge to go outside and meet people, but I couldn't. After a few weeks, we got a notice that lockdown would remain in our society for more than just three weeks. At this point I was even starting to miss going to school.
This pandemic is undoubtedly something terrible which is going on in our society, but we are so blinded by the negatively in ourselves, we don't realize that this may be a time to take advantage of. Take the fact that I got to meet up with friends every weekend for a nice bike ride, and how could I forget to mention that I got out of the speech I had to do in front of my class in English. I also learned some python coding, which I would never get the time to do if we weren't in distance learning.
I am quite used to this new way of life, but I cannot say that I don't miss the days where everyone can meet up without having to wear a mask.
